A Weekend in the Life of the Makcik

Friday, 7th May 2010. My cousin got married.

Her solemnisation ceremony took place after Friday prayers in a mosque near her home. I wonder how my aunt and uncle felt seeing their eldest getting married. I still remember her as my little spoilt-brat-of-a-baby cousin. It sure seems like only yesterday when I used to bully her whenever she came over. She was this irksome little twit who screamed whenever she couldn't get what she wants. And that used to piss me off big time.

But now, she's all grown up and matured. Ready to become someone's wife and mom. Wow.

Btw, she's younger than me. Much younger. I really feel like a makcik now. Uhuk uhuk..

After the akad nikah, we were busy preparing for the night's ceremony. My mom, aunts and cousins were assigned with the cooking. As usual, my spot will be with the dishes. The dirty ones. As I can't cook, I always offer to wash the dishes. I find it as quite a soothing activity. It's a task no one else but I seem to like. I wonder why?

The bridegroom's family came over for the Malam Berinai Kecil after isya' prayers. I never knew there were two types of Malam Berinai; Malam Berinai Kecil and Malam Berinai Besar. It's one of those Malay customs my relatives still seem to practise. I wonder what the difference is and why they are called as such. I'll need to ask my mom to explain it.

The reception on the bride's side happened the following day. My aunt and uncle had booked a hall nearby their place. The hall was okay, I guess. The catering service was efficient and very helpful. And the food wasn't that bad at all. Owh, and my sisters and I were assigned to give away the bunga telur to the guests. Nothing new there.

That's almost the whole family on the maternal side. Two of my uncles are missing, and a cousin or two. And of course, if you'd notice, the Shaarani daughters are not there too. And owh, I forgot, my brother and his fiancee too. We all went AWOL, I guess.

Rock betul pasangan pengantin dok berkaraoke lepas bersanding. Congratulations, uolsz!

And that's my crazy family.

The same Saturday, 8th May 2010 night I had to attend another event.

We tried to arrange it so that it would be a surprise. And I guess it was. We definitely caught Madam Mermadia unprepared when we turned up at her house unannounced. Bro got the KFC, Miss Tea got the gifts and I got the cake. And we also got pizza delivered to the house.

However, our timing was a bit late for Madam Mermadia and her kids. They had already eaten by then. Oh well, that wasn't an issue. We could all eat it for her. Hehehe..

Can't wait for the little princess to come out. I'm so looking forward to seeing her. I can already foresee she will be an adorable creature. EDD is 12th May.

Happy Baby Shower Mama Mermadia!! Hope you'll both make it through safe and sound, InsyaAllah.

Sunday, 9th May 2010 was less eventful but it was still a special day. The whole family met up to celebrate Mother's Day and also the birthday of one of my younger sisters. Well, almost the whole family. My other sister couldn't make it. That made it a bit sad for us, but it was still a happy occasion.

We had sushi at the The Gardens. Yummy.

The two guests of honour for the day.

Happy Birthday Miss Supersonic Chatterbox! Happy birthday, Mama dearest!
